Maigret sets a Trap
Five women horribly murdered in the busy streets of Montmartre. All the victims stabbed with knives; their clothes methodically slashed. Desperate, Maigret decides to risk a life to catch a killer. He sets a trap… with a young woman as bait...
Extract:
There was an ambulance standing by the kerb, with the attendants waiting for orders; they could be seen as paler forms in the darkness. There were also a few idlers, standing in timid silence.
A female figure lay on the pavement, almost touching the wall, and a trickle of blood zigzagged away from it, dark and already coagulating.
“Dead?”
A man approached Maigret – a local doctor, he learnt afterwards.
“I counted at least six knife-strokes.” He said.
Review:
“The best living detective-writer… Maigret is the very bloodhound of heaven”
-C. Day Lewis
